Description

Serving on the board of an organisation is an extremely rewarding experience, and it is both interesting and challenging. You will learn a lot and develop new skills; you will meet new people from different backgrounds and you will achieve a fantastic sense of achievement by contributing to the success of an organisation that you care about.

These six short modules will provide you with the basics on what a board does, how it does it and what would be expected from a new board member. We also cover what you should expect in relation to training and support to fulfil your role.

Over the six modules you will learn about

  1. Why you might want to join a board, what is involved and what a board does
  2. Organisational purpose, values, and strategic direction
  3. Financial health, resource management, and organisational performance
  4. The role of a board as the employer
  5. The importance of board culture and continuing improvement
  6. What makes for an effective board.

Audience

This course is aimed at anyone, regardless of age, background, experience, qualifications, or life skills who is interested in joining a board and effectively making a difference. There are no prerequisites.

Cost

Access is provided free of charge once you have created an account.

Duration

The six modules will each involve 20 to 30 minutes learning with a short quiz at the end to test your understanding.

On successful completion you will be awarded a certificate.
